How to join

The myths

One of the most popular misconception about Mason and the masonry world is actually the how to join. Most think that in order to join the Masons brotherhood you must be invited, vouched for by someone that is already a member. Nothing is further from reality than that. In fact the Masonic desire is for every man to become a member. As Masonry is also for the self-improvement of the individual, every man should join so that by doing so every man will improve one self.

Basic Requisites

There are only just few basic requirements to become a Masons.

Be of a mature age.

That mean being at least 21, and this is because it must come from an individual that has to be free from any bias, possibly able to sustain themselves and their families. United Grand Lodge of England however is running what is called University Scheme. Those are Lodges within the universities area that are allowing men of just 18 Years of age to join masonry.

Believe in a Supreme Being.

Freemasonry does not distinguish from any kind of religion, race or any personal circumstances, however it is required from every member to be a “believer” of a Supreme being

……and

As Freemasonry is still a Brotherhood there are some expenses linked to join the membership. St Ambrose for example has an annual fee of £150.00. It requires you to attend 4 meetings per year that have a meal at end. Although this is not compulsory it is highly suggested that you attend them too. And then there is the Charity. Giving is free and according to everyone wealth but we do encourage every member to give. All in all you should not be out of pocket for more than £400 per year. It might be not much for some but can be a lot for others so You must be able to support yourself and your family.

Self-Improvement is also at the base of joining Freemason, therefore it help a lot if you have Have high morals and so you must live a moral and ethical life. You must have a strong desire to want to make a difference in the world. By your actions, you want to make yourself a better man, and make your community and the world a better place to live.
